The Golden State Chapter is universally recognized within the industry as the premier resource for the government meeting profession.
Chartered in 1988 with 37 members, the Golden State Chapter is now the third largest in the organization’s 25+ chapters. Within the chapter’s active membership base of 130+, many hold industry accreditations including CMP, CHSP, CHME, CTP, and CGMP. In addition we have several national award winners, and two chapter members have held the title of National President.
In recent years, the Golden State Chapter has given back to our community by supporting local charity programs such as WEAVE, and look forward to supporting the Ronald McDonald House at our upcoming national conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in June 2017.
We give back to our members that work hard with and for the chapter by awarding scholarships to the Annual National Education Conference. We raise money for scholarships by having fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Our annual Silent Auction is key to that success.
We are a chapter of hard working volunteer members, and are one of the best resources for government meeting professionals in the state. The Society of Government Meeting Professionals
SGMP is the only national organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to improving knowledge and expertise of individuals in the planning and execution of government meetings through education, resources, and industry relationships.
Established in October 1981, organizers saw a need for a forum in which to discuss mutual objectives and techniques for conducting business meetings in the government realm and sought to create an opportunity to meet on common ground with the providers of meeting services and facilities to review the latest trends in planning and implementing these events. SGMP is that forum!
Represented in SGMP's membership are employees of federal, state, county and city government, associations of governmental employees and government agencies, and suppliers (Hoteliers, CVB’s, CVA’s, Airlines, etc.). SGMP is managed by a national board of directors and affiliate chapters conduct regular meetings in their respective areas.
